Chinese association names new leader
Wang Pei Wen, president of the Chinese Economic Development Association, said yesterday that he will be returning to China at the end of this month after a two-year tour of duty in the CNMI.
Wang, who announced his plans during a meeting with Gov. Juan N. Babauta yesterday, introduced his replacement, Wei Dongbao, the current vice president of CEDA.
The governor thanked Wang for his work with CEDA and praised his accomplishments.
“Together we have had a very productive relationship, resulting in great strides for our government and the government of China. With your help, we have signed the Memorandum of Understanding to ensure that workers coming from China are treated fairly and we have secured Approved Destination Status for the Commonwealth. We could not have done this without your help,” Babauta told Wang.
For his part, Wang said that he was “very satisfied” with the steps his office has made in working with the CNMI government.
“I can return to China knowing that I leave CEDA in very good hands and that the progress we have made is advantageous to your government and mine,” Wang told the governor.
The new president, Wei, promised to continue to work toward the betterment of the Chinese community on Saipan.
