The Public School System will distribute more than 120 high-end laptops and 25 LCDs to Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies teachers starting at 8am today at the PSS conference room.

Commissioner of Education Rita H. Inos said the laptops are also for the benefit of the teachers, as the new equipment would allow them to conduct research, prepare innovative lessons, and in turn present these outputs to their students.

The laptops were acquired for at least $1,900 each, and the LCDs at an estimated amount of $1,700 each. Inos said these innovative instructional sets of equipment would be implemented at PSS high schools and junior high schools.

The project was initiated since last year and a total of $250,000 were allocated for this project, said Inos in her letter sent to all secondary school principals last Sept. 2004. It was not immediately clear if the project is locally or federally funded.

Inos informed the principals of the good news and asked them to submit the necessary software applications that must be installed in their laptops and other hardware issues that should be addressed before the distribution.

Hopwood Junior High School will receive 26 laptops; Cha Cha Oceanview Middle School, 18 laptops; Rota Junior High School, six laptops; Tinian Junior High School, 12 laptops; Marianas High School, 26 laptops; Saipan Southern High School will get 14 laptops, Kagman High School will get 18 laptops, and Rota High School will receive seven laptops. All high schools will receive LCD’s but the number for each recipient school will be determined today.
