Visitors donate satellite phone to ARC
Off-island visitors Sandy Brue and Chris Carsten recently donated a state of the art Iridium satellite phone to the American Red Cross-NMI Chapter.
The NMI Chapter said that Brue and Carsten, who were visiting from San Diego, California, had wanted to provide assistance to the local Red Cross Chapter.
Brue, who had brought a satellite phone with her during her travels, felt that donating a similar item to the Red Cross would help with their emergency response capabilities.
“We are very grateful to Sandy and Chris for their generous donation to our local Chapter. We’ve been interested in purchasing this type of equipment for several years. The phone will definitely improve our emergency communications during disasters, allowing us uninterrupted service to other first responders and our National office in Washington DC. We can’t thank them enough for all their kindness” said Red Cross executive director John Hirsh.
Portable Motorola Iridium satellite phones provide voice and data transmission service anywhere on earth and create a safety net should traditional cellular or landlines become damaged or destroyed during a typhoon or other disaster.
