Wastewater pumps break down
Old pumps at a primary wastewater pup station at the bottom of Navy Hill across from the Garapan tennis courts stopped working on Monday.
According to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., its crew couldn’t save the old pumps, which gave way even as it was undergoing repairs.
This may have resulted in residents from Gualo Rai and Garapan having problems flushing their toilets Monday evening.
This occurred even as CUC is awaiting a shipment of large pumps, pipes, check and gate valves for the wastewater station.
The utility firm said that its crew has already bypassed the broken pump station by installing bypass pumps to get the waste up to the Sadog Tasi Treatment Plant.
“Customers likely noticed or had pressure problems Monday night. CUC does not anticipate that any waste will leak or overflow on the ground, roadway, or at these pump stations. By Tuesday morning, CUC’s Wastewater system will be back to normal operation,” it said.
The project is budgeted and procurement began in October 2004. The new order of pumps, fittings and the lift station accessories will be installed as soon as it arrives on island.
