‘Govt doesn’t owe CUC $22M’

I listened to the John Gonzales Show last night and must categorically inform the general public that the Commonwealth Government does not owe the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. $22 million in unpaid utilities billings.

The amount is exaggerated; it is incorrect. For example, I, as head of a small government agency, disputed through an administrative hearing the difference in the amount that CUC was charging the Commonwealth Election Commission for water and sewer usage. I succeeded and CUC reversed over $9,000 in charges to the commission’s account.

I can see where some government agencies may owe CUC more than they are being billed but there are also other government agencies that are overcharged for water and sewer usage. Thus the amount of $20 million based on CUC’s flat water rate is not on actual use and it is only fair that the amount be disputed, computed, negotiated and paid the correct amount.
