Late Roman M. Benavente honored
The 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council has adopted a resolution to mourn the passing of former Susupe District Commissioner Roman M. Benavente upon his untimely and sudden death on March 14, at the age of 72.
The resolution also pays tribute to Benavente’s memory and extends sympathy and condolences to his family.
Benavente, the former Susupe district commissioner and father of Lt. Gov. Diego T. Benavente, was born on Oct. 11, 1932, the son of the late Guillermo Villagomez and Carmen Deleon Guerrero.
He died on March 14 at the Commonwealth Health Center.
Benavente was husband to the late Dolores Pangelinan Tenorio Benavente. They were blessed with seven children: Melvia, Edward, Diego, Antonio, Ronald, Margarita and Melina.
Benavente served his people of Susupe for five years with honor and distinction. He was employed by the former Naval Administration and the CNMI government as program officer. He retired from government duty on Dec. 12, 1992, after over 28 years of service.
“The members of the Municipal Council and the people of the CNMI are extremely gratified to join Gov. Juan N. Babauta, his children, his family members, and friends in recognizing, congratulating and commending the late honorable Roman Manahane Benavente for his exemplary services and contributions in serving and representing his people of Susupe as District Commissioner with honor and distinction,” part of the resolution reads.
The resolution was certified by municipal council chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chair David A. Indalecio and attested by secretary Antonia M. Tudela.
