DCCA dominates DOLI, 24-3
The 2005 Inter-Government Slow Pitch Softball League roared into the second night of longball action on Wednesday night, and the boys from the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs provided most of the firepower with a 20-run thumping of the Division of Labor and Immigration in a 24-3 victory.
The DCCA scored all of the runs that they needed when they tallied four plate crossings in the top of the second to take a 4-0 lead, but just to be sure, they added 20 more runs to their total over the next five innings at the Tan Ge field.
Right fielder Frances George went 3-for-6 on the night with a trio of singles and two runs scored for the home team, and teammate John Reyes hit a solid 3-for-5with three singles and four runs batted in, but Tony Camacho went 5-for-5 and hit for the cycle with an extra double en route to driving in eight runs by game’s end.
The hit parade continued as second baseman Joey Dela Cruz added to the DCCA 30-hit total with a 4-for-5 outing in which he slugged a two singles, a double, and a triple, scored twice, and drove in three runners.
CUC 17, DFW
The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation had no problems providing power to their hitters, as they gaffed the Department of Fish and Wildlife for 17 runs off of 17 hits in an 11-run season opening win.
CUC got production from everywhere, as shortstop Vincent Sablan went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles, two runs scored, and two runs batted in, while Ton Guerrero hit a single and a two-run homerun in his first at bat to finish the game with a solid 2-for-4.
Guerrero drove in three runs on the night and crossed the plate twice, and first baseman Ed Kapileo went 2-for-3 with a pair of base knocks, three ribbies, and a sac fly to center. Late edition Joe Torres made an impact when he came into the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, as the relief pitcher went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.
