Subway® Restaurants of Saipan recently announced donations to two Saipan schools. Presentations were made on June 2, 2005, to Saipan Community School and Marianas Baptist Academy by Subway® Restaurants of Saipan managing director Marcos Fong.

“We have always been a supporter of educational programs and schools as a corporate citizen,” said Fong. “Each year, we look for schools with worthwhile projects and we try to help them fund those needs. Ultimately, it goes back to the students.”

Subway® Restaurants of Saipan has been a supporter of education by taking advantage of the Education Tax Credit for schools in the past consecutive years. Additionally, Subway® Restaurants also supports different school programs such as Science Fairs, PTCs, and field trips. Subway® Restaurants of Saipan is also a corporate sponsor for the CNMI Mathcounts program.

The Subway chain presently has 13 restaurants throughout Guam and three restaurants on Saipan.

Subway Restaurants are famous for their made-to-order footlong and six-inch submarine sandwiches, served on a variety of Italian, wheat, or a variety of seasoned breads baked fresh daily in each restaurant. Hot and cold subs are available with an assortment of meats, cheeses, vegetables, and condiments. Subway’s “7 under 6” menu features seven sub sandwiches with 6 grams of fat or less. The chain’s gourmet-inspired “Selects” line of sandwiches features exclusively prepared sauces.

Subway Restaurants was founded 1965 in Bridgeport, Connecticut by then 17-year-old Fred DeLuca, with a $1,000-loan from family friend, Dr. Peter Buck. Subway is the world’s largest submarine sandwich franchise, with more than 23,000 locations in 80 countries. Subway recently surpassed McDonald’s® in the number of restaurants open in North America. It has also been named the No. 1 franchise opportunity in all categories by Entreprenuer magazine in its Annual Franchise 500 ranking in 2004—for the record breaking 12th time in 16 years! Locally, Subway is committed to the continual re-investment into Guam by remodels and upgrades of all restaurants to better serve the community.
