Saipan Masters II vies for championship
Just a couple of days after defeating their teammates from the Saipan Major League, the Saipan Masters II got their invitation to the championship dance by downing Guam Masters I, 11-7, Wednesday to extend their unbeaten streak in the Pacific Islanders Masters Tournament to four games at Guam’s Paseo Stadium.
Kaleb Dulei continued to display his talents at Paseo Stadium by going yard with the bases empty in the third inning, while Ben Mesa and Bob Lizama each hit 2-for-4 on the day.
All that awaits the Saipan Masters II team in the finals is their competitor as they advanced to tomorrow’s championship, but chances are that the Guam Masters I will join them soon..
The Guamanians were also 3-0 heading into the match, but at 3-1, they now are struggling to reach the finals. While their record has been tarnished, the Guam Masters I still have a chance to seek revenge for the loss to their northern rivals if they can pull off a win today to advance to the finals.
The good fortune of the CNMI continued on Wednesday as the Saipan Masters I finally broke into the win column with a spirited 18-7 victory over the Australian Dodgers. The islanders were lead by Dennis Renguul, who smacked a double and crossed home plate three times to finish 3-for-4 on the day. Renguul didn’t have to do all the work as Dennis Cruz hit a similar 3-for-5 with four runs scored.
