Nine Filipino bands will gather today for an electrifying rock and roll concert in celebration of the 107th Independence Day of the Philippines.

Dubbed as “Araw ng Kalayaan sa Tagpuan,” the all-Filipino band concert will start at 4pm at Tagpuan Bar along Micro Beach Road, the road fronting the American Memorial Park. The bands that will play will include Knight Owls, the resident band at Hot City; Big Beatz from Godfather’s Bar, Tambayan and Dai-Ichi; Evolution Band of Tambayan; Father and Sons of Tagpuan; Walden and Violy; and Somewhere Out There Band, among others.

Big Beatz lead vocals and guitarist Floyd Lim said the concert would bring together the distinctive talents of many Filipinos in the CNMI. He said he is inviting everyone to come and join them in this all-star jamming event. He said the bands would showcase their unique repertoire sets that the audience would surely love.

Lim’s band plays regularly at the T.G.I.T of the Dai-Ichi Hotel Saipan Beach every Thursday. They also play every Friday at the newly opened Godfather’s Bar in Garapan. Lim said they play sometimes at Tambayan in San Jose.

He said the bands playing today at Tagpuan will have at least 30 minutes to render songs of their own choice and style, from classic Filipino and foreign rock songs to pop and contemporary rhythm and blues.

The entrance to the venue is only $7 with one beer and a chaser, said Lim. He said this concert is the first time to be held at Tagpuan bar but that the bands have been jamming together regularly.
