The 26th Saipan Agricultural Fair Association capped its annual agricultural fair with an awards banquet held Saturday night last week at the Seaside Hall of the Saipan Grand Hotel.

The banquet recognized the efforts of SAFA’s membership in providing healthier produce to the CNMI community.

Division of Agriculture Don Flores said this year’s agricultural fair was “more than excellent” and that without the cooperation and unconditional effort of its members, it would not have succeeded.

Guest speaker during the awards ceremony was Department of Lands and Natural Resources director Richard B. Seman.

A total of 23 participants in the Plant Division were awarded certificates of recognition.

Pedro A. Deleon Guerrero topped the animal division category, while runners up were Ray Anthony Ayuyu, Juanita Torres, and Randall Aguon.

More than 170 members and guests trooped to the awards venue even though the organization had only expected 125 guests to show up.

The highlight of the “Mes Lancheros” celebration held last May 28 featured over 35 concession booths, mostly members from SAFA’s Sabalu Market, which sold hot lunches, barbecue, cold drinks to cool off the heart from the searing afternoon sun, and traditional woven items. A carnival ride was also set up for the enjoyment of the children.

Flores also stressed that the success of the fair was due to the hard labor of the farmers with support coming from SAFA, DLNR, DOA, and other sponsors.
