270 Korean performers in July concerts
A Saipan music school will be bringing in 270 Korean performers for a two-night concert during next month’s Liberation Day celebrations.
P’Art Music Academy art manager Park Jun Ho said the performers will include a traditional Korean dance troupe, a modern dance group, an orchestra, and taekwondo athletes.
The shows will be held at the American Memorial Park in Garapan on July 3 and at the Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe on July 4, at about 7:30pm.
Park said the performances would be free and open to the public.
“We have been doing this for 10 years. We’re doing this to introduce Korean culture to the local people and all other Saipan residents, as well as to provide entertainment to Koreans living on island,” Park said. “We are inviting everyone to join this event.”
He added that there would be a raffle draw during the shows. Some of the prizes at stake are airline tickets and electronic appliances.
Held every 4th of July, Liberation Day is a national holiday first observed in the CNMI in 1977.
This year, the CNMI marks the 59th anniversary of the islands’ Liberation Day with the theme “Liberty, Peace, and Freedom.”
The month-long celebrations kicked off with a 20-minute fireworks display last Friday on the festival grounds at the Garapan Fishing Base.
The six candidates for the 2005 Liberation Day Queen were also introduced at the event. They are Jeannadine Rios, Rona Joyce, Evelyn Pangelinan, Nicole Robert and Indira Jolin W. Kaipat and Yvonne Passi.
