Gentlemen, present your platforms!

With approximately four months until election day, the CNMI community deserves to see a published platform from all political parties seeking public office. Voters need to review, compare and ascertain the contents of each platform in order to make a decision as to which platform and whose leadership will be most successful in achieving prosperity for our community.

Recently, the Covenant Party published their platform, listing in particular the economy, education, environment, and essentials and ethics as critical issues deserving reflection and consideration.

Although these issues may be first and foremost in the minds of the people, there are numerous other pressing matters facing the CNMI today that must be addressed to prevent further decline. Many of these matters concern the rising cost of living, power availability, water quality, health care, and government ethics.

The platforms from all camps should be made public NOW. It is only fair and appropriate that the CNMI voters be given ample time to review, hear, scrutinize and demand explanations on how, when, what, where and why platforms will be successfully implemented. Voters must not be distracted from the real issues or become confused during the mayhem of political fever.

Currently, there are four gubernatorial candidates. The people must be armed with facts to wisely choose who will be the best candidate to provide the leadership necessary to secure a better future for the CNMI and its people. The people need a clear vision and a realistic plan to determine if the next four years is going to be fruitful or painful for the CNMI consumers and businesses.

Will we install smart meters, or smart leaders?
