MPLA distributes 36 homestead lots
The Marianas Public Lands Authority distributed 36 homestead lots in a recent mini-lottery on Tinian.
MPLA public information officer Ed Arriola Jr. said the lottery was held on June 9 for available lots throughout Marpo Heights and Carolinas Heights on Tinian.
The island is not covered by the moratorium on village and agricultural homestead permit applications that has been in place for Saipan and Rota for almost three years now.
The moratorium was implemented on Oct. 1, 2002, due to the dwindling inventory of public land. Pursuant to the moratorium, MPLA stopped accepting village homestead applications for Saipan and village and agricultural homestead applications for Rota, due to the dwindling inventory of public land.
However, residents on Tinian may apply for either of two homestead programs.
The homestead program was created to assist needy residents to purchase homes and lots in order to construct safe and decent housing.
The village homestead program allows eligible applicants ample public land lot for the construction of a residential dwelling. The agricultural homestead program allows eligible applicants a sizable lot for the development and maintenance of farms crops.
