What a difference a day makes.

After limping off the bowling alley with an abysmal 158-pinfall average Sunday, Raul Dumapit came back with the vengeance Monday knocking down 862 pins for a whopping 215.5 average to rule the June Pepsi King of the Lanes Tenpin Bowling Tournament at the Saipan Bowling Center.

The 16-year Saipan resident said he was itching to redeem himself after playing lousy in the first day and did just that by registering four monster 200-plus games on the last day.

Dumapit, who works for Ambyth Shipping, started the second day of competition on the right foot, rolling a 231 and continued on his tear with a 220 and 207 before bowing out with a 204.

The righthander from Pulilan, Bulacan in his native Philippines said it was the first individual award he has ever won since taking up the sport in 2001. Dumapit is married and has two children back home.

Veteran kegler Jess “Kuya J.R” Rebusada finished a far second with 820 pinfalls for an average of 205. The first day leader put together a four-game series of 202, 221, 192, and 205.

Dannie Robles and Mark “The Shark” Halstead finished third and fourth with pinfall totals of 810 and 807, respectively, while Jon Hensley and Robert Talavera shared fifth place with an identical score of 793.

Completing the top 10 were Roman Borja (784), Richard Leong (781), Ronald Epan (779), and Raymond Zapanta (771). First to sixth place went home with cash prizes between $150 and $20.

While Dumapit’s performance on the two days was certainly night and day, June Pepsi Queen of the Lanes Emi Williams was a picture of consistency all throughout the tournament.

Williams knocked down 649 pins to finish second to first day leader and eventual runner-up Rizza Hensley on Sunday, but she improved some more on Monday rolling a 669 to secure the women’s championship.

The crafty veteran worked her magic with scores of 145, 196, 159, and 169 en route to averaging 167.25. Hensley settled for second place with a 661 of 165.25 norm, while rounding out the top five were Gina Sablan (634), Mindy Taitano(630), and Yho Villavicencio (630).

Williams received $50 for all her troubles, while Hensley and Sablan went home with $30 and $20.
