3 boys arrested for Dandan heist
Police arrested three teenage boys who were tagged as suspects in the burglary and theft at the Dandan Elementary School more than a week ago—the fourth school burglarized during the summer vacation.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Eric David said the suspects were arrested Wednesday at their respective homes in Dandan, based on arrest warrants issued by Superior Court Presiding Judge Robert Naraja.
David did not disclose the identities of the suspects, but said that two of them are aged 13, while another one is 14 years old. He did not specify if the suspects are the school’s own students.
David said the suspects were brought to the juvenile detention facility following their arrests. The judge initially set bail at $15,000 for each of the suspects.
Members of the Thief Apprehension Select Coalition determined the identities of the suspects after conducting an investigation. Some of the items stolen from the school included a DVD player, a DVD/VHS player, a television set and a stopwatch.
Police initially classified the case as burglary and criminal mischief after school authorities discovered in the early morning of June 27 that some 14 classrooms had been burglarized. Some of the classrooms had broken windows.
Meantime, police have yet to solve the burglary and theft incident at the Hopwood Junior High School last June 12, where still unidentified culprits stole three computer laptops and a digital camera.
The burglars barged inside five rooms, including the old and new libraries, cafeteria, computer laboratory and special education room.
Earlier, the Marianas High School and Kagman High School were burglarized and robbed of valuables and equipment on June 1 and May 28. The schools’ own students allegedly perpetrated the burglaries. The Kagman High School burglars also set fire to the school’s Environmental Science and Oceanography Room. Suspects in the both incident—all teenagers—have already been caught.
