The CNMI Junior League All-Stars have one chance left to return home with a notch in the win column today as they suffered their worst defeat of the Junior League World Series against the Curundu Junior Leaguers of Panama City, Panama, 8-2.

Back-to-back heartbreaking losses at Heritage Park appeared to have taken their toll on the boys from Saipan as they fell to 0-3 at the hands of the Latin Americans. This year’s trip to Taylor, Michigan looked so promising with the 5-0 finish in the Asia-Pacific Regional Tournament, but a pair of losses by a combined three runs eventually wore the squad down.

The loss also officially eliminated the boys from the Series contention as the Hermanos Cruz Juniors from Arroyo, Puerto Rico crushed the Rotterdam/Rijnmond Juniors of Rotterdam, Netherlands, 15-2. The Rotterdam squad fell to 0-2, and has been outscored by their opponents by a combined 25-3 in their first two outings.

The CNMI will next face the Europeans at 4am Saipan local time.

The Panamanians are now 1-1 with the win and will face Canada for a chance to pull even with the Orleans Junior Leaguers from Ottawa. Canada remained in second place while idle at 2-0, but they can set the stage for an undefeated battle with the Puerto Ricans if they can get past Panama.
