The first ever Marianas Institute of Filipino CPAs and Accountants, MIFICPA, “Accounting Idol” was held last Saturday, Aug. 13 at the FWRC, Nauru Building. The event was the first of its kind.

To be held quarterly, Accounting Idol is an ingenious mix of a quiz, and a refresher course dashed with fun and suspense.

It is open to all members, including those who simply want to keep abreast of the current best practices in accounting, auditing, taxation and government business regulations, and especially those who are planning to take the US CPA examinations.

First to top the event were Grace Sanders (first place) of Hertz-Rent-a-Car; Lois Manese (second place) of Ace Hardware (CNMI), Inc.; and Chris Lubi (third place) of Ernst & Young.

Awards will be given at the 11th anniversary celebration of MIFICPA, which promises to be another first.

The anniversary celebration will be held on Sept. 3, 2005, 6pm, at the Aqua Resort Club. It will be a formal event with a glitzy twist. The new set of officers and board of directors for 2005-2006 will also be formally inducted.

Guests of honor include Philippine Consul General Wilfredo Maximo; Michael Johnson, chair of the Saipan Board of Accountancy and head of the accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche; James Whitt, SBA vice chair and head of the accounting firm, Ernst & Young, and other officials of the Philippine Consulate in the CNMI.

Tickets are available to all accountants for $20. For more information, check the MIFICPA website www.mifcipa.org or contact any MIFICPA officers in your area. (PR)
