Clarification!

I read some materials by this administration claiming it has rectified controversies on a turbulent apparel industry. But did they really? It’s now a sunset industry and U.S. Rep. George Miller just included the CNMI in his minimum wage proposal; so what’s the claim?

Furthermore, pitching for the industry in recent months is a day late, a dollar short. The fuel surcharge is more than sufficient to force it into final closure. Ask industry leaders for real answers, not perceptual responses—you know, the mirror, mirror on the wall bit?

It also claimed that the NMI has lost many economic opportunities because we couldn’t handle the (now sunset) apparel industry. I say nice try!

The obvious mediocrity in the way this administration has ruined lasting investments with arrogance is the key to Japanese investment withdrawal. JAL is leaving next month, including the rumored closure of Tasi Tours, a local tour agent in partnership with Japan Travel Bureau. It seems a final rally before we start selling pencils and crayons along Beach Road.

Miller isn’t interested in our industry reform. He’s all out to protect the apparel industry in his district. Was this so difficult to see and understand from the outset? Well, Gov. Juan N. Babauta—as then Marianas Resident Representative—donated to Miller’s political war chest since 1993. Isn’t reciprocity in order, sir? Today?
