Attorney General Pamela Brown and two other attorneys working for the administration of Republican Gov. Juan N. Babauta contributed to the Democratic Party during the 2004 national elections, according to a 2004 campaign contribution report released on the Internet.

Politics Now, a website dedicated to discussing Commonwealth politics in general and the November 2005 election in particular, listed individuals from the Commonwealth who made contributions to the Republican and Democratic parties in the 2004 national elections.

It also provided a link to fundrace.org, which published the 2004 campaign contribution report on which Politics Now based its story.

According to the fundrace.org, Brown donated twice to the Democratic National Committee totaling $3,500. She made the contributions under her married name, Pamela Blackburn and named the CNMI Attorney General’s Office as her employer.

Two other attorneys at the AGO donated to the Democratic Party. One is AGO civil division chief James Livingstone, who contributed $1,000 to the Democratic National Committee and $500 to defeated presidential candidate John Kerry. The other is assistant attorney general Arin Greenwood, who donated $210 to the Democratic Party.

Brown yesterday maintained that her contributing to the Democratic Party was “my personal business.”

In a comment posted on the Politics Now website (http://decision2005.blogdrive.com), Brown said her choice for president had little to do with her choice for CNMI governor.

“In America and the Babauta administration, citizens are allowed to support any political candidate they believe best represents them. My national choices are far different from my local choices. Here, my interests and those of the majority of the Commonwealth are best represented and served by the hard working, forward thinking B&B [Babauta and Benavente] team,” she said.

Other notable CNMI contributors to the Democratic National Committee are Federal Ombudsman James Benedetto, who donated $2,000, and Saipan Chamber of Commerce executive director Christine Parke.
