Regardless of whether Samahang Ilocano at Pangasinense wins or loses in tonight’s final game of the regular season, the protagonists for this year’s Final Four of the 2005 MDX Amateur Radio Club Inter-Color Basketball League are already set.

After finishing the single-round elimination phase of the league with a spotless 7-0 mark, powerhouse Poohdeni secured the No. 1 spot in the playoffs and will battle No. 4 seed and last playoff qualifier JCN Enterprises (4-3) in tomorrow’s first game scheduled to start at 6pm at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

SIP, for its part, could finish no worse than 5-2 depending on its performance against Micronesian Brokers, Inc. this evening. The team, however, is already assured of the No. 2 spot in the second round because it defeated Final Four third-seed 287 Club-Verizon in the eliminations. The Cabalen team is the same team that SIP could possibly tie at 5-2 with a loss to MBI.

Even if organizers don’t apply the win-over-the-other rule in case of a tie between SIP and 287 Club, the two teams would still be locking horns anyway in tomorrow night’s 7:30pm scheduled second game since they would only be interchanging the No. 2 and No. 3 spots.

The winner of the Final Four contests would then duke it out for the 2005 MDX cage league championship the very next day beginning at 5:30pm. The title showdown would immediately follow the battle for third pitting the Final Four’s losing teams set an hour and a half earlier at 4pm.

In related news, MDX president Romeo “Bong” Malasarte announced that the league would be charging a $1 entrance fee for people who would be watching this Sunday’s championship game at the Ada Gym.

Malasarte said only players and officials of teams seeing action in the finals would be exempted from the $1 entrance fee. He said money raised from the collection of entrance fees would be donated to victims of Hurricane Katrina, which devastated New Orleans earlier this month. The donation would be made under the name of MDX Amateur Radio Club, according to Malasarte.
