Cing: I’m still for Heinz-David
Former Tinian senator David Cing of the Democratic Party clarified Wednesday that he only supports the local Republican Party candidates on Tinian, not its gubernatorial bets.
In an interview, Cing said that he stands by his previous position to support the independent gubernatorial candidacy of Rep. Heinz S. Hofschneider.
“I still have the same position. I’ve committed my support to Heinz. What I’m supporting here is the local Republican Party, particularly mayoral candidate Joaquin Adriano. I support his group,” said Cing.
He said he believes that Adriano, currently the Senate president, “is the better candidate.”
“The people of Tinian will be better off with Adriano. Of course, if I run, I’ll be much better,” the former senator quipped.
He said he showed up at an Adriano-led political rally recently. In that occasion, he also met with Lt. Gov. Diego T. Benavente.
“I met with the Lt. Governor. It’s showing respect to a visitor in your house. I also tell the people of Tinian that I can’t deny the Lt. Governor has been very helpful to the people of Tinian, but it’s different from giving my vote. I wish him and the governor good luck,” said Cing.
In an earlier interview, Cing said that his party is just playing low key this time, acknowledging that this election is between the ruling Republican Party and Covenant Party from the political opposition.
“It’s very hard to convince that we are winning, so why bother? You see, candidates expect to win. As it is, it’s fighting a losing war. This election belongs to the Republican and Covenant,” he had said.
The former senator said he cannot support Democratic Party candidate Froilan C. Tenorio “because they didn’t listen to us.”
He said that there has been no communication between the Saipan and Tinian Democratic Party.
