Tagaman looking to pay $500 to local songwriters
While the CNMI is still awaiting the formation of an organizing committee for next summer’s 2006 Micronesian Games, planning has already begun for April’s 17th Annual Tagaman Triathlon.
Local leaders met on Thursday to get the ball rolling for the longest multisport event in the Marianas, and this year organizers are looking to the community to add something new to the event.
For the first time in the race’s history, organizers are asking local songwriters to turn their skills into dollar bills in the Tagaman Songwriting Contest, and hope to lure in a large number of entries with a $500 prize for providing the song that will be featured in radio and television ads, the race website (www.tagaman.com), and played several times during the 2006 Saipan Sports Fest.
For their efforts in creating the official sounds of the Tagaman Triathlon, the first runners-up will receive $250, while the second runners-up will take home $100.
The contest is open to everyone and contestants are advised that entries are to be no longer than three minutes long, should have a repeating chorus, and a catchy tune. Submissions will also be evaluated based on their originality.
The deadline to submit your entry for the Tagaman Songwriting Contest is Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 5pm, and all submissions should be made at the Marianas Visitors Authority office in San Jose.
All submissions become property of Taga Inc., but contestants interested in receiving their entries after the judging must include a self addressed stamped envelope or come down to the MVA to pick it up.
