Dosalua leads Tinian to 14-and-under victory
Second of three parts
Youth standout Donnie Dosalua ran like there was no tomorrow in the 2005 All-Schools Cross Country Championships Saturday, leading his Tinian Stallions to the top in the boys’ 14-and-under team competition at the CPA Airport Field.
With the Tinian supporters cheering him on, Dosalua raced to the finish line and completed the two-mile affair in a sterling 13:48 for the gold medal.
He was followed by Lawrence Echon, who was Saipan Southern High School’s lone competitor in the age group, as the Manta Ray crossed the finish line in 13:56 for silver, while Tinian’s Aran Evangelista struck bronze after clocking in a minute later at 14:56.
The rest of the Tinian runners are Benedicto Decena, who placed fourth in 19:15; Efrain Palacios, who took fifth in 19:36; and Christian Barcinas, who finished in sixth place with a time of 19:52.
It was a lock for the crown as Tinian was the only group that fielded enough runners—a minimum of five members—to qualify for the team competition.
Saipan Southern took first and second in the girls’ category as Louise Cabronero ran for gold after clocking in at 19:57 and Crystal Cabrera bagged silver courtesy of a time of 20:42. Wang Yue and Novina Pangelinan of Hopwood Junior High School prevented a sweep of the top four spots, with Yue taking the bronze in 20:45 and Pangelinan bringing home the fourth-place ribbon with a time of 20:46. Sara Park won the fifth place ribbon for Saipan Southern, resting after running for 20:48.
Neither school managed to field enough competitors for the team category.
