On the early morning of Dec. 2 2005, just as the thick fog rolled in from the ocean onto San Diego Bay, the recruits of Company I at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego were busy preparing themselves to become a part of something special.

On this day, Private First Class Jonathan Torres Teregeyo, a member of Company I, Platoon 3135, and hundreds more from six other platoons received their anchor and globe pin signifying the transformation and becoming a United States Marine Corps.

Teregeyo is the son of Dennis S. and Lynn T. Teregeyo of Dandan, Saipan and a 2005 graduate of Saipan Southern High School.

Teregeyo was a three-year member of the National Honor Society and was enrolled under the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. He also served as the Student Council vice president during his senior year at Southern High.

In attendance for the Basic Marine Graduation were his parents, Dennis and Lynn T. Teregeyo, his grandfather, Joaquin Teregeyo, Jack Torres and Robert Salas of Las Vegas, Nevada. Walter Villagomez was present on behalf of CNMI Resident Representative Pete A. Tenorio.

Undergoing through more than 12 weeks of one of the most intensive and difficult military recruit training in the nation, Teregeyo has met and successfully completed the task and challenge to become a United States Marine Corps.

Teregeyo recalls his moments during recruit training as very challenging and rewarding experience.

“Marine Corps Boot Camp training teaches and instills the necessary leadership capabilities, values and the confidence to successfully achieve and complete your goals. Overall the training builds self-character and mental toughness that I know will last with me for a lifetime. I also want to give a big thanks to my parents, grandparents, all my family and friends for their support while going through training,” he said.

“It is a true honor to congratulate PFC Teregeyo for successfully becoming a Marine and becoming a part of our nation’s finest fighting force in safeguarding and protecting America’s freedom,” stated Representative Tenorio. “PFC Teregeyo and many of our young men and women from the Northern Marianas represent an untiring commitment and patriotism to serve our country proudly in all branches of the Armed Services.”

Teregeyo graduated Basic Marine training with the Military Occupational Skill slot for Aviation Maintenance and will be working with fixed-wing aircrafts and Marine helicopters. Following graduation, he will be stationed at Camp Pendleton, California for additional advanced training. (PR)
