Is Christmas nothing more than a commercial venture centered on a far-fetched myth? Discover the true meaning of Christmas on Dec. 17 and 21 with Saipan Community Church’s musical presentation, Journey to the Manger.

Originally written by Kim-Beyer Johnson and arranged and orchestrated by David T. Clydesdale, Journey to the Manger is a semi-dramatic musical with a cast of five actors portraying characters: Nathan Row, the cynical sculptor; Christine Row, his lovingly concerned wife; Pastor Brad Collins, the “nativity-less” pastor, and Mary and Joseph—“who through the wonder of the musical stage take Nathan on his own journey to discover the true meaning of Christmas.”

Journey to the Manger drama director Bing E. Chavez said SCC will hold the musical presentation on Dec. 17 and Dec. 21 at 7pm at SCC in Susupe.

“It’s free admission. It’s open to everybody,” said Chavez.

She said this presentation is “quite exciting” with the special participation of SSC senior pastor Rev. Glen Jenkins, playing the role of Pastor Brad and SSC associate pastor Rev. Roger Abe, playing the lead role as Nathan.

The public can have a preview of the production—minus the drama—on Dec. 15 at 8:30pm at Duty Free Shoppers in Garapan.

“The choir will be singing all the musical pieces included in the production at DFS,” Chavez said.

SCC’ musical production is directed by dynamic choir director Jonathan Frasco.

Frasco said the audience would be excited to follow Nathan’s journey to the manger and back.

Journey to the Manger affirms that the Christmas story will never change. It continues to bring the message of hope, joy and love.

In the original script, Nathan discovers this meaning on a journey through time…the Depression Era, Italy during the Renaissance, the streets of England, a simple little church in Austria, the manger, and finally back to the present time.

Ben Maghanoy, SCC’s set design director, captures the essence of this journey through different eras on stage.

“Be blessed and be inspired as you watch this special musical presentation,” said the SSC.
