A ranger station will soon rise on Managaha Island, as the Marianas Public Lands Authority beefs up law enforcement efforts on the tourist hotspot.

MPLA public information officer Ed Arriola, Jr. said the agency is in the process of putting up a ranger station that would serve as the officers’ headquarters on Managaha.

MPLA’s rangers conduct periodic patrols, collect fees, monitor erosion, and enforce other Managaha rules and regulations, according to Arriola.

“Since the 1980s, the MPLA rangers who watch over Managaha Island have been sitting under the sun for eight hours a day,” Arriola said.

Since recently, though, Arriola said the MPLA rangers have begun using canopies.

The ranger station would become a permanent structure that would serve as headquarters and shelter for the MPLA officers, according to Arriola.

Arriola said the ranger station would stand on Managaha’s pier. The public information officer advised residents and tourists going to Managaha Island to exercise caution near the construction area.
