CUC moves back to Joeten Dandan
The Commonwealth Utilities Corp., which is now a division under the Department of Public Works, will relocate all its offices from La Fiesta back to the Joeten Building in Dandan.
Press secretary Charles Reyes, Jr. said the agency was incurring more expenses in holding offices at the La Fiesta, spending some $50,000 to $60,000 for the monthly operation and maintenance of its power generators in that building.
By holding offices at the Joeten Building, Reyes said the agency will save on costs. It will be hooked to its power generation system on Saipan, which means that its expenses for power consumption will become payable to the agency itself.
Reyes also said Joeten made a significant concession in accommodating the CUC offices back to the building. The cost of holding offices in Joeten versus La Fiesta were not immediately available as of press time.
“It’s [relocation] more convenient for consumer and it will save local funds,” Reyes said.
CUC had been holding its main offices at the Joeten building for years until it relocated to La Fiesta in 2005 during the Babauta administration. The cash-strapped agency, however, began to close down its customer service center in La Fiesta after a mere five months in operation. The CUC then centralized the center at the Dandan office.
The CUC yesterday ceased to be an autonomous agency, with its integration into the DPW by virtue of an executive order by Gov. Benigno Fitial.
