Micro Games golf qualifiers to use white tee
Micronesian Games golf qualifying round coordinator Jess Wabol informed hopefuls for the CNMI National Golf Team that they will need to tee off from the white tee when they play a couple of fundraising tournaments this weekend and the next.
Wabol earlier indicated that the scores of hopefuls taking part in last weekend’s Mt. Carmel School Golf Tournament, this weekend’s Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands 5th Annual Charity Classic Golf Tournament, and the NMC Foundation Golf Tournament late next month would be part of the Micro Games qualifiers.
The veteran of many regional competitions also said that after the first round of qualifiers teeing off from the white, players would then shift to teeing off from the blue tee.
The HANMI event will be held this Saturday, April 1, at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort and will have a 7:30am start.
No details about the NMC Foundation Golf Tournament have been made public yet but organizers have scheduled a media conference on April 3, 10am at Hyatt Regency Saipan’s Kili Café Restaurant.
Originally, Wabol said the first round of qualifiers will be made up of 10 tournaments from the white tee after which he said he would trim the field to 16 players—eight each for the men’s and women’s teams. The second round of trials would then be from the blue tee and after 10 rounds,
Wabol is expected to pick five golfers for the men’s team and same number for the women’s team a month or two before the start of the Games.
