Superior Court Associate Judge David A. Wiseman on Friday found probable cause to warrant the filing of a criminal case against a man accused of stealing a wallet from a poker player.

Wiseman said after hearing the testimony of the government’s witness and listening to the arguments, he finds probable cause to believe that the crime of theft was committed and that the person who committed the offense is Cook Sepeten Ham.

The judge ordered the 22-year-old Ham to answer the charge.

Arraignment was set for today at 9am.

Chief Prosecutor Jeffery L. Warfield Sr. alleged that on Feb. 11, 2006, the defendant stole a man’s wallet containing $235.

Police said the victim was playing poker at Wild Orchids Poker when his wallet fell to the floor.

Ham took the wallet and fled, police said.

On Feb. 23, 2006, police arrested the defendant behind GIG Discotheque in Garapan for assault and battery and disturbing the peace. Police seized from the defendant the stolen wallet and the victim’s identification cards.

The victim in the theft case stated that a few days after he lost his wallet, somebody called him and demanded $50 to get back his wallet and identification cards.

The victim said the caller did not show up. (Ferdie de la Torre)
