Hafadai Beach Hotel took part in the Marianas Visitors Authority’s 2006 Exploring Tourism program last Friday by opening its doors to nine eager students from four of Saipan’s top high schools.

Under the supervision of human resources manager Juan Tenorio and food and beverage manager Noreen T. Guerrero, Andrea Hofschneider, Bradwell Batallones, and Jazmine Santos of Grace Christian Academy; Kristal Babauta and Angela Pinaula of Saipan Southern High School; Naomi Ada, Carmelyn Ogumoro, and Lyrard Tenorio of Mt. Carmel School; and Allen Moses of Kagman High School were able to get an overview of the Garapan hotel’s operations.

In doing so, the nine students collectively were able to “explore all areas of Hafadai Beach Hotel’s business and gained an understanding of how it related to tourism.”

The students started their “internship” bright and early at 8am with Hofschneider being assigned to the accounting department, Batallones to purchasing, Johnson to the frontdesk, Babauta to F&B, Pinaula to housekeeping, Ada to personnel, Tenorio to reservations, Ogumoro to the kitchen, and Moses to maintenance.

After lunch at Tropicana with the hotel’s general manager Hidemitsu Taguchi, the high school students spent an hour discussing with their “mentors” about what they learned through their experience. They also filled out a survey form for the benefit of the MVA program.

At around 3pm, the students’ fruitful day at Hafadai Beach Hotel ended and they went back to the MVA office to pick up their 2006 Tourism Month T-shirts.
