Yankees yawn in win over Brewers

The Northern Yankees warmed up for what was bound to be a clash of the Budweiser Saipan Major League titans but the D’s Diner Brewers failed to field a complete team on Sunday to hand the pinstripers a free notch in the win column.

Nary a shot was fired at Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field as the Yankees (6-3) pulled to within a half-game of the first place Budweiser Kings (6-2), and while they were looking for some action, the Yanks were still pleased with the win.

Brewers’ manager Tony Rogolifoi was more than a little upset by the lack of a complete roster come game time, but this was not the only time the Brew crew failed to come to Tan Ko full strength.

Last season, league leading hitter Tony Celis’ run at opposing pitchers ended abruptly in the second game of the playoffs when the Brewers—down 0-1 in the best-of-three series—lineup was manned with only eight players.

Since then Celis has switched teams, but the gloom in the maroon dugout was still evident when the veteran manager expressed his displeasure with the turnout.

The loss put the Brewers a game under .500, but even at 4-5, the talent-laden Brew crew has a chance at making waves come playoff time. The Yankees have had their share of disappointment as well, but their dismay has come in the past two championships as they lost to the Brewers in 2004 and the Ford Rangers in 2005.
