DPS pays tribute to 4 fallen officers
The Department of Public Safety honored yesterday four police officers who were killed in the line of duty.
DPS acting Commissioner Ray Mafnas and Lt. Gov. Timothy P. Villagomez led the wreath laying at the DPS monument in Susupe.
Mafnas said that fallen officers in the CNMI and nationwide should be honored by maintaining the highest standards of conduct and professionalism.
“Let the sacrifices, then, of those men and women nationwide and here in the CNMI be not in vain or fall to the wayside. If they were here, they would tell us to respect life, exercise compassion and enforce the laws of our land with fairness, with a clean conscience, without prejudice and partiality,” Mafnas said.
The acting commissioner urged the men and women of DPS to develop a bond of respect for each other “and to take care of one another the way you take care of your own brother or sister.”
The fallen officers were Capt. Justino T. Arriola and officers Abraham S. Quitugua, Gilbert M. Taisacan, and Wilgene T. Lieto.
Also honored were those injured in the line of duty. They were police officers Marvin S. Camacho, Jose A. Cepeda, and Victor Hocog.
