Ogo mulls Senate run in 2007
Rota Rep. Crispin M. Ogo is open to the idea of running for Senate in next year’s midterm election.
In an interview Thursday, Ogo said several people have approached him about a possible Senate run in November 2007.
“I haven’t really thought about it. But if that’s what the people want, of course I will do it,” he said.
Reelected to a second term last year, the Rota representative admitted that he finds it appealing that senators serve four-year terms. Members of the House of Representatives sit for only two years; thus, they “have to get on political campaign after only one year of service,” Ogo said.
However, the Lower House provides its members with a power not accorded to their Senate counterparts, that is, the power to initiate appropriation laws, said the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.
But if he should decide to run for the Senate and win, Ogo expects to have a fairly easy time adjusting. “I’m comfortable in my experience as a legislator. I don’t think the transition to Senate work would be too difficult. I can do a Senate job as good as I can the House job. And I love challenges,” he said.
