Alex wins low net, Wabol plays most rounds
Golfers Alex Aquiningoc and Jess Wabol were recognized Saturday night at the Hyatt Regency Saipan for their efforts throughout the year while competing in Refaluwasch Golfers Association sanctioned events.
Aquiningoc was consistent all year long, and was able to edge Joe Wabol to take home the Tony M. Taitano Award for winning the 2006 Average Low Net competition.
The veteran was presented a trophy plus $100 and free membership for a year after recording an association best 70.12 average.
Finishing right behind him was Joe Wabol, who punched in an average of 70.84, while Bill Kaipat placed third in the category with a net average of 71.08.
For his part, Jess Wabol earned the Sid K. Peter Award after playing the most rounds of golf.
The top gun, who is also prepping to compete in next year’s Pacific Games in Samoa, put his skills to the test during 23 rounds of play to earn $100, plus free membership to the association for a year, as well as a trophy.
Aquiningoc recorded the second most rounds of play with 21.
The awards were presented during the association’s year-end awards banquet. Also presented during the banquet was the Plas M. Tagabuel Award, which went to the 2006 Club Champion. Details of the Club Champion competition, also held on Saturday, will be published in tomorrow’s issue.
