I am originally from the island of Rota and currently in Orlando, FL and I make it a habit to check the news online everyday. Lately, I’ve been reading a lot of mind-boggling news about our lawmakers. I was debating if I should take time out to say something about it. The saying “a shut mouth does not get fed” goes far with me. So with that said, here it is.

I am taken back and confused as to why some of our leaders are being frivolous. The choice of words that some lawmakers choose to use are childish and theatrical. I am very disappointed. I’m a youth and to observe, read, and experience the older generation acting like some of my co-workers’ children is discouraging. I was raised with respect and vibe with people who have it. Aside from respect being a “simple” quality, it is part of the Chamorro culture.

Unfortunately, it is now that I see some of our leaders losing this quality. “I can lead a horse to water but I can’t make it drink”. I can express to lawmakers about how professionalism requires respect, how positivity moves production, and how teamwork exhibits extraordinary outcome but in the end of it all, my question is, do they have the WILL? As a voter and a native of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, I have expectations for our chosen leaders. If I helped put them in their current seat, the least I should have in return is their dedication to positively work for the common good of the people of the CNMI and show some RESULTS! With all the respect I have in me,
