Kiss My Pass with flying colors

Kiss My Pass won the pennant of the 2008 Miller Lite 4-Person Beach Volleyball League after finishing the regular season with a 13-1 win-loss record, its only setback exacted by runner-up Fatingali exactly a month ago from today.

The team, skippered by Ken Tanzawa, swept Angan in its final regular season game Wednesday night at the Pacific Islands Club sand courts.

Kiss My Pass routed Angan in the first set, 11-4, before encountering stiffer resistance from their opponents in the final two sets. It took the second 11-8 to win the game and completed the sweep by taking the third in the same score.

Aside from Tanzawa other members of the pennant champions are Apple Samson, Charles Johnson, Amanda Puleo, J.R. Gechig, Allan Webber, and Ed Cho.

Fatingali beat Kiss My Pass, 11-6, 12-10, 11-4, last May 13.

In other matches in the final regular season of the tournament Wednesday, Spike’A’Sauras beat MHS Okies (11-6, 11-3, 11-6), MHS Okies defeated Tsunami (11-0, 11-2, 11-5), Fatingali took out Spiked Punch (11-4, 11-8, 11-8), and Angan came back against Tsunami (9-11, 11-6, 11-1).

The playoffs of the 2008 Miller Lite 4-Person Beach Volleyball League took place last night with No. 1 Kiss My Pass taking on No, 8 Herbalizers (6-7 win-loss record), No. 2 Fatingali (12-2) squaring off against No. 7 MHS Okies (7-7), No. 3 15 of Fame (11-2) dueling against No. 6 MHS Peers (8-6), and No. 4 Angan (11-4) opposite No. 5 Tsunami (8-6).

The win-loss standings of other participating teams are Spike’A’Sauras (6-7), Snap Crackle Pop (5-9), Spiked Punch (4-10), MHS Young Gunz (4-10), 670 Boom Boom (3-9), Gigi (3-11), and Brabu (2-12).

In related news, PIC will host the 10th Annual Seaside Grill Beach Volleyball Weekend on June 14 and 15 at the San Antonio landmark resort’s sand courts.

At stake will be prizes for the top teams in the men and women’s doubles as well as the winner of the co-ed four-person competition.

The doubles event will be played on Saturday, while co-ed competition starts on Sunday.

The co-ed competition requires a female and a 17-and-under player on court all the time.

Doubles teams would have to pay a $25 entrance fee, while $15 will be assessed each player for the co-ed competition with a maximum of five players per team.

Members of the Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association get a five percent discount, while players under 17 years old will have a discount of 10 percent.

Entries must be submitted before 6pm on June 13.
