Due to conflicts in schedule, the Commonwealth Council of Arts and Culture has decided to postpone the Music Festival earlier set for Dec. 5-6.

CCAC acting director Ramona Rebuenog said the event has been moved to January because of similar activities that they will be organizing during the first week of December such as the Christmas exhibit.

She said they are now ready with the exhibit, which will be held the whole month of December.

CCAC had planned the Festival of Music in an effort to revive and promote sounds that people in the Marianas are familiar with. It was supposed to feature past and present musicians in the CNMI.

The pilot project will be held at the Garapan Fishing Base.

Department of Community and Cultural Affairs Secretary Cecilia Taitano-Celes said it would be an opportunity to encourage local musicians to improve their craft and hopefully become true professionals.

Some of the legendary musicians in the CNMI that will be featured include former congressman Candy Taman and three members of the board of directors of the Arts Council, David Peter, Joseph Diaz and Joe Limes.

“We would like to gather them into this event and bring them back to sing their songs,” she said.

Aside from promoting the Pacific culture, the event is also a way of giving tourists another chance to discover talents and skills in the CNMI in other fields.

Vendors will be allowed to set up stalls but it would be exclusively for those in the business of music or instruments like guitars, ukuleles, organs, and others.

Educational activities related to music such as demonstration and short training will also be a part of the activities.
