Nutrition-conscious buffet opens at Fiesta’s Chambré
Health conscious eaters—or those hoping to become health conscious—have one more place where they can get their daily allotment of fruits and vegetables.
Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan yesterday launched their Healthy Lunch Buffet, offering an assortment of nutritious foods at lunchtime. While the buffet is geared toward local residents, tourists are also invited to take part.
Das Krishnan, Fiesta’s food and beverage manager, said his goal in opening the buffet was to promote healthy living to the people of the CNMI. With the high rate of diabetes in the Commonwealth, it’s important to focus on nutritious foods, he said, adding that all of the foods he uses are low in sugar and salt.
Krishnan said he is meeting with local nutritionists to learn more about healthy eating approaches. And he invites customers to offer suggestions as well.
“For any business you have to listen to your customers,” he said. “That’s what I’m looking at.”
The menu will change every day. At yesterday’s buffet, an array of cold and hot food was offered along with veggies and fruits.
Some of the items included: sunomono, sushi rolls, kimchi, Korean soba, mahi mahi teriyaki and black rice.
Yesterday’s opening was by invitation only. Krishnan said he hopes about 30 people would take part in the buffet each day.
“I’m not expecting people to come every day. Maybe once a week or two weeks,” he said.
Valet service is offered to make dining convenient, he added.
Krishnan is also working on concocting his own fresh juices.
