POI slips past Customs in make-up game

Pacific Oriental, Inc. eked out a 17-16 win over Customs in a make-up game in the men’s division of the Budweiser 2008 Inter Government/Business Softball League Tuesday night at the Capital Hill Ballfield.

An error from Customs shortstop Poland Masaharu allowed catcher Maurice Omengkar to score the game-winning run.

Customs tied the game after six and a half innings, 16-all. following Masaharu’s two-run single at the top of the seventh.

At the bottom of the seventh, Customs pitcher J.J. Salas walked Omengkar. Leftfielder Jun Kaipat batted next and singled bringing Omengkar to second base. Rightfielder Harlan Reyes flied out, while centerfielder William Sablan hit his target with Masaharu loosing the grounder allowing Omengkar to reach home plate. Masaharu later threw the ball to first beating Sablan.

POI claimed its third win in five games. POI had three sluggers going 3-for-4 with extra hitter Andrew Duenas making the most impressive stint at-bat with his three-double at the bottom of the sixth.

The Customs-POI game was first played on Nov. 16, but was suspended at the top of the third due to rain.

[B]CPA 16, PIC 2[/B]

In other results, Commonwealth Ports Authority cruised to a 16-2 win over Pacific Islands Club.

The CPA-PIC tiff was originally set for Nov. 20.

Leftfielder Byron Kaipat was only 2-for-4 at-bat, but he hit back-to-back homers and in those two roundtrippers had four RBIs to keep CPA’s perfect record after five games.

Outfielder Mark Toves and shortstop Mel Manahane connected on one homer apiece for CPA at the top of the sixth.

CPA’s defense allowed PIC to score only in the third inning with Tommy’s Kennington single driving Otsuka Masatoshi home and Thunderson Sokau reaching home plate on a CPA error.

[B]Law & Order 22, Customs 11.[/B]

Law & Order handed Customs back-to-back losses on the same night with the former cruising to a 22-11 victory.

Shortstop Ben Lisua was perfect at-bat going 4-for-4. He had a three-run triple in the first inning and a three-run double in the fourth. Lisua scored four runs and six RBIs.

First baseman Ulysses Kapileo went 3-for-5 at-bat, homered once, and scored five RBIs in Law & Order’s easy triumph.

Law & Order connected on six runs apiece in the second, third, and fourth inning to break the game wide open.
