Halaby tops 2009 cover model search
Melissa R. Halaby topped five other aspirants in the first ever search for Beach Road Magazine’s 2009 cover girl model.
The monthly magazine’s top executives announced the results of the model search during a simple ceremony yesterday.
Halaby garnered an average of 19.67 scores from the three judges that included Reina Camacho of the Division of Environmental Quality, photographer Hideo Honda and award-winning stylist Renren Santos.
The other finalists were Cloven Rose Luna (first runner-up), Yvette Marie Deleon Guerrero Bennett (second runner-up), Leia St. Clair, May Manuel and Alma S. Manlulu.
Manlulu was the only finalist who did not show up.
Halaby is currently a commercial model for Cocoa Cola and Vitamin Water Drink.
She said her favorite sport is volleyball and played for the Saipan International School varsity in her high school year.
Halaby said she is extremely excited about topping the search.
“Modeling is something that I’ve always want to do. It’s really a good idea for me to join,” she said.
To become a model, she said “you must have a lot of confidence in yourself.”
The awarding ceremony was led by Glimpses of Guam executive vice president Stella Fong, BRM operations manager Virgie Avendano-Woodruff and account manager Susan Marchitti.
