Pangelinan leads SML in batting
Mike Pangelinan of the Falcons leads the ongoing 2009 Budweiser Saipan Major League in batting average based on 18 or more at-bats.
According to the latest compiled statistics, Pangelinan averaged .611 by hitting 11-for-18 at-bat and joined three other teammates in the Top 15 of the category.
Juan Iguel of the pacesetting Rangers is running second with a .590 clip (13-for-22) and B.J. Sablan of the Falcons third with his .526 average (10-for-19).
Iguel also has the most runs scored so far with 15. He went 1-for-5 with a single run in the Rangers’ 7-4 victory over defending champion Rock Steady last Wednesday night, bringing his total runs to 16.
Inside the Top 5 are reigning MVP Tyron Omar of rookie team Young Guns with his .500 (9-for-18) at fourth and John Acosta of the D-9ers with his .480 (12-for-25) at fifth.
The lower half of the Top 10 includes sixth Dave Camacho Jr. of the Rangers (.461), seventh Ben Mesa of D-9ers (.454), eighth Henry Iguel Jr. of Falcons (.450), ninth Byron Kaipat of Rock Steady (.444), and 10th Jeff Tenorio of D-9ers (.434).
Jun Hyuk Jang o Korean Phoenix is 11th (.421), J.D. Dikito, Falcons, 12th (.416), Manny Sablan, Rock Steady, 13th (.391), Bob Lizama, D-9ers, 14th (.384), and Jess Mesa, Tigers, 15th (.347).
Pete Tomokane of the Rangers has the most doubles with five and teammate Dave Camacho has the most triples with three.
So far only three players have hit a homerun—B.J. Sablan, J.D. Dikito, and Ben Taisacan.
B.J. Sablan is pacing the field in most RBIs with 11. Ben Mesa had nine and Byron Kaipat made eight.
In strikeouts, Vincent Sablan of Rock Steady is leading the Top 5 with 28. The others are Mel Sakisat (26), Thomas Joab (23), Hong Kun Choi (19), and Jason Hayes (18).
Vincent Sablan is the leading pitcher with a 1.00 ERA with three earned runs after 21 innings based on 10 innings or more.
Rangers’ Dung Tenorio is second with his 1.40 ERA, Choi is third with 1.75, Sakisat fourth with 1.82, and Ed Santos of Tigers with 2.72.
