The NMI Council for the Humanities is still accepting applications from individuals interested in serving on its board of directors.

The council is a non-profit organization affiliated with the National Endowment for the Humanities. Its mission is to foster awareness, understanding, and appreciation of the humanities through support of educational programs that relate the humanities to the indigenous cultures and to the intellectual needs and interests of the people of the Commonwealth.

Candidates for board membership should have a strong desire and ample time to promote the council’s mission, programs, and activities.

Board service entails attending board and committee meetings, evaluating council programs and activities, reviewing community grant applications, developing new council programs and initiatives, raising funds, and recruiting community partners.

Those wishing to be considered for board membership are invited to submit a letter of interest and current resume to council board chair Tracy M. Guerrero on or before 4pm, Monday, July 11, 2011.

Letters of interest and resumes may be mailed to the council at P.O. Box 506437 or dropped at the council’s office in Springs Plaza, Gualo Rai.

Contact the council’s executive director, Scott Russell, at 235-4785 for more information on this matter. (Humanities Council)
