Youth invited to participate in conservation program at AMP
The National Park Service said the American Memorial Park would be participating in the Youth Conservation Corps Program again this year.
The YCC Program provides young adults an opportunity to assist preservation projects, vegetation management, grounds maintenance, trail rehabilitation, and exposes them to the environmental work that the National Park Service conducts.
“This program allows youths a great opportunity to learn about the National Park Service and our efforts in preserving and protecting this unique site,” said site manager Chuck Sayon.
Due to the public’s interest in this program last year, the park will recruit islandwide. The YCC program is for young men and women between the ages of 15 through 18 only. Six enrollees will be hired this summer. Participants are paid the U.S. minimum wage, $5.15 per hour, for 40 hours per week.
The YCC employment is by random selection from all applications. Applications must be received by 5pm., May 19, 2006 at the American Memorial Park Visitors Center. American Memorial Park will conduct the YCC Program for six to eight weeks from June 12 through August 01, 2006.
Applications can be obtained at each high school counselor’s office, or at the American Memorial Park Visitors Center.
