The Commonwealth Health Centers’ Department of Public Health, through a Centers for Disease Control bioterrorism grant, has funded an emergency response trailer for the American Red Cross-NMI Chapter.

The trailer, which is self contained with it own onboard power system, will be used by the Red Cross to support its disaster services mission.

The trailer is unique in that it will also support emergency operations by the Department of Public Health.

Bio-Terrorism coordinators Pete Antalan and Dr. Dick Brostrom said they are pleased to have access to this equipment as it further builds capacity to respond to health related disasters.

“We can easily move this trailer into a village to provide vaccinations or preliminary health screening,” said Brostrom.

“We are thankful to the Department of Public Health for partnering with the Red Cross on this important venture. This type of collaboration is the key to maintaining an island wide readiness to disaster,” said John Hirsh, executive director of the NMI Chapter. (PR)
