Cruz wins second Prince of the Lanes title
Youth kegler Zack Cruz was consistent in his outing at the Saipan Bowling Center on Sunday and was able to hold on to win the May Prince of the Lanes Tenpin Bowling Tournament.
The win was the second for Cruz, who also won the inaugural roll-off last January.
Cruz was far from posting the highest one-game score, but was able to put up strong numbers in all four games to leave with a total of 681 pins.
He began by knocking down 161 pins in the opening game, then slowed down and bruised 148 pins in the second. Cruz then followed with his best performance of the evening with 190 pins, and closed out his evening with 182 pins in the fourth game for an average of 170.25 pins per game.
April champion Jeremy Williams finished right behind Cruz, putting up a late charge that
came up just a bit short.
Williams matched Cruz’s 161 in his opening game, but hit a pedestrian 127 pins in the second game. He recovered and made contact with 158 pins in the third game. Williams recorded the best score of the day as he closed his campaign with a bang and hit 228 pins for a total of 674 pins and an average of 168.5 pins per game.
Michael Camacho won third place with 652 pins after connecting on 168 pins in the opener, 156 in the second, 176 in the third, and 152 in the fourth game for an average of 163 pins per game.
For his part, Ken Yoshimoto was in the lead after starting off by firing down 210 pins, but cooled off and finished with 648 pins to come close to a top three finish.
With the win, Cruz earned $40, while Williams and Camacho pocketed $20 and $15.
A total of 16 youth bowlers competed in the monthly tournament, which is organized by the Saipan Bowlers Association.
Meanwhile, the King and Queen of the Lanes tourney kicked off its two-day competition on Sunday, with Robert Talavera leading the men’s field with a score of 885 and Gloria Omechelang leading the women’s corner with a score of 684.
The King and Queen tourneys concluded last night. Results were not available as of press time.
