With the setting sun as their romantic backdrop, Derick dela Santa and Hazel Cruz celebrated their wedding on May 3, 2006, with a reception at the beachside of the Saipan Grand Hotel, in the presence of their close friends, co-workers, and family members.

Dressed in white (Hazel later changed to a yellow ensemble), the couple were certainly the star attraction in the luau-themed wedding reception that made for an informal ceremony and certainly lots of fun for everyone present.

Departing from traditional customs, the unmarried guests participated in several fun activities, including a hula-hoop contest for singles, limbo rock for singles, and other games. And instead of releasing doves at the end, the couple released white balloons.

The two earlier had their civil ceremony at the Philippine Consulate General, where they were married by consul Belinda Ante.
