Saipan International School celebrated its first commencement ceremony for three high school graduates Saturday evening.
In his remarks, valedictorian Nicholas Shoemake shared his experience going to a small school.
“It’s true we missed out on prom and school games but Katie, Jose, and I made the best of it,” he said.
Despite the number of students attending SIS Board of Directors chairperson John Jones told parents what the school had to offer.
“This is a small school. There wasn’t much we could offer, but we did offer a good education,” he said. “Parents I want to thank you very much for believing in our school.”
SIS headmaster Dr. Dale Jenkins stressed the importance of being optimistic. “[Graduates] you must develop a belief system, [and] you must be able to stand up for what they are. Be optimistic, look for the bright side of things,” he said.
“If you can’t…look for opportunities that is out there for you,” he added.
Aside from Shoemake, the other graduates were Katie Nicholls and Jose V. Santos.
Teachers, family, and friends gathered at the Pacific Islands Club Charley’s Cabaret to witness the graduation of SIS’ first alumnus.
