Leong, Vales lead individual awardees

Veteran southpaw Richard Leong and teenage sensation Jerrie Vales led individual keglers honored during the 18th Philippine Bowling Association-Capital Bowling Center Friday Night League awards ceremony last Oct. 20 at the CBC in Garapan.

Leong, who is a member of the CNMI’s Perfect 300 Club, led the way in the high average category after averaging 194.01 pinfalls for Onwel.

Vales, for her part, won the ladies high average after norming 170.02 pinfalls an outing for Pure H20. Aside from the ladies average, the up-and-coming bowler and daughter of veteran kegler Roger Vales also bagged the most improved bowler plum after improving her average by 15.02 pins for the season.

Raphael Zapanta of Bagets was the men’s most improved bowler after the Kagman High School student bettered his average by 16.26 pinfalls for the season.

Edgar Marquez of Onwel and Dannie Robles of Friday Night League 18th season champion Jos. Corp., meanwhile, divided the other four spoils in the men’s individual race.

Marquez won the high game scratch with his 278 followed by Raymond Zapanta of UIC with his 276.

Marquez also lorded it over the high game with handicap, beating Zapanta again, 300-291.

Robles, meanwhile, was without peer in the high series scratch with his 700, followed by the 691 of Raymond Zapanta. He also captured the high series with handicap, relegating Zapanta to his fourth runner-up finish, 739-733.

Ron Cal, for her part, had her name all over the women’s winners’ list, as she topped the high game scratch (236), high game with handicap (262), and high series scratch (592). Gina Sablan prevented Cal from completing a sweep when she salvaged the high series with handicap (675).

In the team special awards, Jos Corp. bagged two of four categories—high game scratch (1,021) and high series scratch (2,845).

Onwel finished second in the high game scratch with its 1,018, while UIC was runner-up in the high series scratch with its 2,823.

PTI and Sai Hand captured the two remaining categories. PTI won the high game with handicap (1,172), followed by Sai Hand (1,148). Sai Hand topped the high series with handicap (3,227), followed by PTI Fantastic Friday (3,221).

Individual awardees earned from $35 to $10 for their efforts, while team winners pocketed between $45 and $30.
