A motorist was seriously injured when a car he was driving ran off the roadway and overturned into a drainage in As Perdido Saturday night.

It took more than five minutes for responding police officers and medics to pull out the driver from the totally wrecked car, Saipan Tribune learned from witnesses.

A police officer said the driver, who was alone at that time, suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Commonwealth Health Center.

As of press time yesterday, the condition of the driver was not clear yet.

Initial investigation showed that the motorist was driving a Hyundai Accent with license plate ACB-360 along As Perdido Road at about 8:15pm.

As the east-bound car was climbing the hill, it ran off the roadway and overturned into the three and half foot-deep drainage along the side of the road near the Cornerstone Christian Church.

The concrete gutter in the drainage was smashed due to the strong impact.

A passing motorist observed the car in the drainage and immediately called emergency 911.

After traffic officers conducted their investigation, a towing company pulled out the car at 9pm.

The accident left a pool of blood in the drainage.
